Workshop description: This course is for archivists, librarians, or anyone who is interested in caring for their family documents, print collections, or other ephemera. The class will begin with a short discussion of materials and what to look for when making archival enclosures for flat paper objects. Each participant will then make a small portfolio of reference samples of various enclosures for paper materials, including a simple four-flap, polyester sleeve, paper envelope and a “back and wrap” enclosure, which can be used for display. Each participant is asked to bring four objects no larger than 4 x 6 inches (roughly postcard size) that can be used to make the reference samples. No previous experience necessary.

Workshop presenters: This workshop is presented by Jamye Jamison with assistance from Ashleigh Ferguson Schieszer. Jamye is the owner of Jamison Art Conservation, a paper conservation studio in Cleveland, OH. She received an MLIS with a concentration in book and paper conservation from University of Texas at Austin in 2003. During her conservation career she has worked at ICA Art Conservation in Cleveland, Zukor Art Conservation in Oakland, CA, and the Newberry Library in Chicago, IL.
Skills learned at this workshop: Participants who complete this workshop will have the competency to create basic protective enclosures for flat paper objects. Participants will create a portfolio of four different sample enclosures. Participants will be a given a list of supplies and sources to acquire the needed tools and supplies to institute their own enclosure-making programs.

Registration fee: $45 ($40 for Ohio Preservation Council members), payable by credit card in advance of the workshop. Please proceed through the registration system and choose the Pay Online option. This fee includes all supplies for the enclosures, however, each participant is asked to bring four objects no larger than 4 x 6 inches (roughly postcard size) that can be used to make the reference samples. Instructor will provide all necessary tools, which will be checked out and returned at the end of the workshop.
